Blogger Du Jour: Sydne Summer
With her colorfully chic and polished-cool look, Sydne Summer from the blog Sydne Style is a go-to when searching for fresh spring styling tips. Not only does she have killer fashion sense, the girl is a powerhouse! When she’s not on TV, blogging or YouTubing, she’s hosting fabulous gatherings, like our Girls Who Lunch event in Beverly Hills. We needed in on her fabulous life as a style expert and blogger, so we sat down and interviewed her!

STYLUST: When and why did you decide to start Sydne Style?
SYDNE: I started my blog in 2009 as a way to help women get inspired by fashion. I showed, and still show, how to adapt the hottest runway and celebrity trends into your everyday life. In 2010, I kicked off my Staples Series, where I style one article of clothing three different ways to give women ideas on how to get the most use out of their wardrobe.
STYLUST: If your blog had a mission statement, what would it be?
SYDNE: Sydne Style inspires women through aspirational yet achievable style.
STYLUST: What do you do when you’re not blogging?
SYDNE: When I’m not blogging, you can find me on YouTube. I created an A-Z Trend Guide, where I break down all the hottest trends for the season. I also interview celebrities and designers in my The Scene series. In addition to the blog and YouTube, you can find me on TV, chatting about style of course, on E! News, Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight and more. And in my downtime, I love to go on hikes and brunch with my friends and rescue dog, Bunny Bell.
STYLUST: How would you describe your style and who/what inspires it?
SYDNE: I would describe my style as feminine, polished and classic. As a young girl, I was always inspired by how put-together my mother looked in her classic pieces. In the celebrity world, I’ve adored Naomi Watts and Cate Blanchett’s red carpet glamour and Olivia Palermo and Jessica Alba’s impeccable everyday looks.
STYLUST: What are some of your favorite fashion blogs?
SYDNE: There are so many to choose from! Kelly Golightly is my go-to girl for entertaining tips (she throws the cutest parties!). For photography, I’m always inspired by Late Afternoon’s magical photos and Gal Meets Glam’s beautiful images. I think Damsel in Dior does an amazing job of curating the best items to buy right now. Cheetah Is the New Black inspires me to try edgier looks, and Devon Rachel always makes me smile with her colorful choices.
STYLUST: What clothing piece would you consider a must-have in every woman’s closet?
SYDNE: A blazer is a must. You can wear it over dresses to the office or with jeans on the weekend, and it works from season to season.

STYLUST: What are some of your key spring items?
SYDNE: I’m a huge fan of color, so everything bright. On the runway, there were a lot of zest hues (think citrus peels), so I’ve been gravitating toward orange, lemon and lime pieces. I also think white is incredibly fresh for spring. I have a white Bebe blazer that I wear nonstop. Other items in current rotation? A lace top, green statement necklace and nude strappy sandals to lengthen my legs under spring mini skirts and dresses.
STYLUST: Any words of advice for someone looking to start their own blog?
SYDNE: Success happens over time. This was the best piece of advice I was ever given. Don’t think you can start a blog and become an overnight sensation. You have to put the work into it. And trust me, it will eventually pay off! I also think it’s important to stay true to who you are. Sure, I’ll try out edgier or tomboy trends every once in a while. But even when wearing studs or baggy jeans, I always keep to my feminine, polished style—not only with my outfit choices but with brands I choose to work with as well. My last piece of advice? Make sure you only post about things you love!
