STYLUST: Who and/or what inspired you to start J’adore Fashion?
STELLA: I started blogging after graduating from nursing school while embarking on my master’s degree program. Blogging was an avenue for me to share something I truly love: fashion and styling. By posting my personal style and sharing life experiences as a student and a career person in the corporate world, I let people know that your budget should not necessarily define your style. It is possible to mix clothes while living on a budget and yet be stylish. You can mix high-end items with low-end pieces and still look great.
STYLUST: Who and/or what has inspired your personal style?
STELLA: My personal style is always evolving. There are so many things that inspire my daily style consciously or unconsciously. My love for arts and paintings, street style, my Nigerian culture, traveling and my environment are some of the things that inspire my style. There have been times when my inspiration came from watching The Jetsons with my little cousins or looking through pictures of Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn and watching shows from the ’80s or ’90s.
STYLUST: What clothing piece would you consider a must-have in every woman’s closet?
STELLA: Hmmm…I really have to think hard on this since it’s only one clothing piece. Well, I will have to say black stiletto pumps or simply great black pumps. You can easily transform a casual outfit such as jeans and a tee from day to night simply by wearing great high-heeled pumps.

STYLUST: What are some of your key fall items?
STELLA: As the weather starts to change, my key fall items include trench coats and great versatile long coats that can be worn with casual outfits or formal outfits for dinner and events in jewel tone colors and burgundy/plum. Last but not least, leather pieces (jackets, pants, skirts and dresses), brocades and print pants are musts for fall.
STYLUST: Peplums are a major trend this season. Any tips on styling peplum pieces?
Things to consider when styling peplum pieces include:
- Choose the right peplum for your body type. Make sure it doesn’t sit too high or too low at the waist. It’s best on the natural waistline because this will accentuate your curves while preventing your upper torso from looking shorter. For an hourglass look, wear peplums with fuller details.
- If you wear a fuller peplum on top, keep the bottom fitted and smooth.
- Also consider the fit, texture and pattern when putting together peplum pieces.
- It’s great to always pair peplum outfits with high-heeled shoes to give an appearance of a longer frame.
- When in doubt, peplum tops can perfectly be combined with pencil skirts, shorts or cigarette pants. For work, you can wear a peplum blouse with a midi skirt and tailored blazer for fall. Pair this outfit with pointy-toe pumps for a classy look.
STYLUST: What’s on your current playlist?
STELLA: My playlist is a blend of different genres. You can find songs from the ’90s, African songs by Nigerian artists and current songs being played on the radio on my playlist. This includes “Some Nights” by Fun, “Lights” by Ellie Goulding, “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” by Pink, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper, “Kukere” by Iyanya, “Cool Temper” by May D and “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins.
STYLUST: Any words of advice for someone looking to start their own blog?
STELLA: Blog because you love doing so and not because you expect financial gains. This is important because on those days and nights when you are exhausted or overwhelmed, your love for blogging will continue to motivate you. Be yourself, set your own pace and have fun.
