Making of the Collection: bebe Spring/Summer 2013 NYFW Set Design
We snagged a couple minutes backstage with Becket Cook, the production designer behind the gallery exhibition-style bebe Spring/Summer 2013 presentation at Chelsea’s Bortolami Gallery during New York Fashion Week. Here he dishes about the inspiration behind delivering the collection as a contemporary art show.
STYLUST: Tell us about the concept for the presentation.
BECKET: We based it on Richard Serra’s sculptures with the curved walls and added the portholes. All the girls can be seen in each porthole, and we thought that would be a great way to showcase the collection. The consulting creative director and I collaborated; she came up with the concept and we made it more elliptical and we love it!
STYLUST: Why the portholes?
BECKET: We did the portholes because we wanted to create a futuristic, modern vibe. They echo the geometry of the clothes’ diamond pattern, and the interplay between shapes builds up the architectural sphere.
