Bridal Spotlight: Chic Wedding Ideas from Brooklyn Bride

Interior designer by day and wedding blogger by night Vané Broussard has developed a keen eye for unique and highly creative wedding planning. With everything from a collage of her favorite bouquets to innovative bridesmaid looks to engagement photography, her blog Brooklyn Bride is a composition of all that is pretty, cute and utterly romantic about weddings. So we just had to pick her brain! Read on for the dish!

STYLUST: What inspired you to create Brooklyn Bride?

VANÉ: Brooklyn Bride came out of the planning for my own wedding. Back in 2007, wedding blogs were still in their infancy, and there weren’t that many blogs around, especially ones that spoke to my style. As a way to get my wedding organized, I just started posting images I had been finding online, and slowly started gathering readers outside of my immediate family. From there it’s just grown and grown!

STYLUST: What’s your favorite part of a wedding?

VANÉ: One of my favorite parts of a wedding is watching the groom’s face as the bride walks down the aisle. It’s such a raw moment, and that’s about the time I usually start getting weepy.

STYLUST: We’re seeing a lot of neons trending right now. What’s a good neon palette?

VANÉ: I like using neon sparingly for a wedding, so pairing it with lots of white and neutrals makes it pop even more, while not being overwhelming. I think white with gray and neon yellow is just perfect.

STYLUST: What are some pretty ways for bridesmaids to look different from each other but still coordinate?

VANÉ: The easiest way to get bridesmaids to coordinate but still look different is to have them choose dresses within a particular color palette or silhouette so that the overall theme is similar but still speaks to each of their own styles.

STYLUST: What are some colorful and unique centerpiece ideas?

VANÉ: Fresh flowers can get a little pricey, so here’s where you can get creative with non-floral options. Spray painting a series of flea market scores in similar colors or filling small bud vases with tissue paper flowers would be effective. Or taking a series of different-sized candles and wrapping them in colorful paper bands would also be quite nice.

STYLUST: What are some cute ways to personalize a wedding cake?

VANÉ: I love cute simple decorations for cakes, especially ones that don’t have to cost a lot.  Some simple greenery or flowers, ribbon or tiny paper garlands…the options are pretty endless but can turn a plain white cake into something adorable.

STYLUST: Any last wedding tips or tricks you’d like to share with our readers?

VANÉ: I think the best piece of advice I can give to readers is to know your limits. It’s so tempting to want to take on a ton of different DIY projects for your wedding, but take into account the cost of materials, time and, perhaps most importantly, your frustration if things don’t work out. Better to let things go than go crazy pulling your hair out…your wedding will still be beautiful!

  2. Great tips for the big day! Certainly the more informed a bride-to-be is, the better the decisions she will make when it comes to planning her wedding.
