Get Pumped: Battle of the Exes Star Diem Brown Shares Her Fave Fitness Tips
We were super thrilled to see reality T.V. star Diem Brown looking hot in BEBE SPORT on MTV’s The Challenge: Battle of the Exes! Inspired by her competitive drive, we asked her to dish some fab fitness advice just in time for swim season.
STYLUST: How often do you exercise, and how do you keep your workouts fresh over time?
DIEM: I try and work out for 5 days a week for about an hour, 30 minutes on the treadmill and 30 minutes of weights. I have made this deal with myself that if I go to the gym Monday through Friday, then I am on gym vacay during the weekends. I really hate spending weekends thinking about the gym, so this mini-deal helps motivate me to “get it done” during the week.
I love boot camps too. I think boot camp type workouts that include a treadmill really keep my workout fresh…every day is a different body part, and you can never really predict what mood the teacher will be in when they teach! Barry’s Bootcamp is one of my biggest motivations, especially to jump-start your week. I need someone on Monday to yell at me to get up and get going!
STYLUST: What are the three tracks topping your workout playlist?
DIEM: If you see me in the gym, either on the treadmill or on that gauntlet type stair stepper, you will see me looking like a dork dancing to my favorite songs! So dorky, I know, but music can really help you forget you are kind of a hamster at the gym.
Right now one of my three top music tracks has to be “Right There” by Nicole Scherzinger, featuring 50 Cent, because I can visualize her body in the video, plus it’s a great beat. Another song that I love might be considered a mad girl song, but it gets you moving: Beyoncé’s “Why Don’t You Love Me.” Again, I can play the music video in my head! However, what I get 100% amped up for at the gym is “Little Bad Girl” by David Guetta, featuring Taio Cruz & Ludacris. I dare you to try and sit still to this song!
STYLUST: How do you stay in shape when you’re traveling or too busy to fit in gym time?
DIEM: Gym time is really hard to do when traveling or when you become too busy with work, so when you can’t make it to the gym, you have to make sure your diet is healthy. I have been a vegetarian since I was in the 6th grade, and contrary to belief, being a veg-head can easily lead to carb-central candy and French fry grabbing while traveling or when you are too busy to make a proper meal.
In the past I would justify grabbing snacks all day long because I was too busy, yet I never really become full or satisfied. So last October I made a change. As weird as it sounds, I 100%, no fail started traveling with my Magic Bullet Blender everywhere I went. Yep, a blender y’all. It gave me instant options to make my own protein shake instead of grabbing a candy bar from the vending machine.
My favorite shake is Vega Sport Protein in chocolate. I put one scoop of that in the blender with a banana and five cubes of ice, and I’m telling you, it’s so yum it kills the craving for junk, not to mention it’s so good for you! For long trips I also pack resistance bands. It’s a long shot I ever get to them, but just in case, seeing those bands reminds me the worse I am on vacation or while traveling, the harder I am going to have to work out when I get back home!
STYLUST: What do you love most about BEBE SPORT?
DIEM: I love BEBE SPORT because it gets you excited to go to the gym…because the outfits are so cute! BEBE SPORT also does a great job of colorblocking, so their workout pants make your booty look higher, and their tanks and jackets have the pops of bright color in the most perfect, eye-pleasing places—super genius, I tell you! Not to mention I love being girly, and BEBE SPORT lets you be girly yet tough while working out. Who wouldn’t love that?
STYLUST: What are your personal health/fitness goals?
DIEM: I have a pattern of working out and eating right for a certain event, and then right after that event is over, I act like chocolate is going to become extinct and way overindulge and treat the gym like it’s a mean ex-boyfriend I want to stay away from. I do this for, like, two weeks straight! I don’t know why I do this, but I would love to, in 2012, become more balanced and stay consistent when it comes to health and fitness.
