Trend Report: Our Design Teams’ Top Fashion Week Picks

From New York City to London to Milan and Paris, there is no disputing fashion week is the pivotal time of year—not to mention nerve racking, but that’s why we love it! With so many shows to catch up on, we cut to the chase and consulted two of our very own design experts (notepads in hand) for a summary on spring 2012’s hottest trends. Here are seven of their top picks we can’t wait to incorporate into our spring wardrobe. Sure, we’re just getting geared up for fall, but a headstrong girl is always prepared. Pencils ready?

(1) PRINTS CHARMING>> “Exciting prints on anything from headbands to shoes to chic jumpsuits and dresses really made on impact on the runway. It’s no surprise! Mixed prints are definitely killing it for fall. For spring opt for a more matchy-matchy look.”

(2) DIVE IN>> “Colorblock, sheer and sexy activewear with a barely-there tribal accents and a heavy scuba influence at Alexander Wang caught my eye. It’s totally wearable!”

(3) ROARING TWENTIES>> “A strong 20′s influence was definitely present. Accessories like capelets and boxy hats on sophisticated clean lines, novelty shapes, and interesting plackets all sculpted a truly sharp and elegant look with sexy boyish undertones.”

(4) MELLOW YELLOW>> “There was a lot of yellow on the runways in ladylike silhouettes and cinched waistlines in all sorts of lengths. It’s a subtle hue that goes well with all skin tones. The best part about it? With the right accessories you can dress it up without looking like a baby-shower cupcake.”

(5) ORANGE YOU SWEET! >> “Fan of the color or not, you couldn’t miss orange on the runway.  From bright citrus hues to corals to smokier orange-reds, this color is no longer just an accent… Many designers used entire outfits in shades of rich citrus.”

(6) LE PETIT JARDIN>> “Graphic, painterly and bold, larger-than-life floral prints eluding to pop artists like Warhol, Gustav Klimt and Claude Monet were in full-effect on the runway.”

(7) METALLIC METROPOLIS>> “Metallic coated leathers and materials with texture—from sheer, to perforated, laser-cut and crinkled left an edgy impression and had many shining moments.”
